MINGLING POST
[I hope that everyone in Accord has wish-machine'd up some sweaters, because it's getting cold outside! especially around the Tower, what with all those delightful ocean winds around to make things extra-chilly. it's not so bad indoors, though. the Stewards have been doing a good job of keeping the place nice and warm for you.
so what has the crazy tower bunch been up to? jumping in leaf piles? huddling inside for warmth? trying to break the world record for most cookies baked in a week? plotting to murder everyone with horrible death magic? there's plenty to be doing and plenty of people to bother, so go talk to your neighbors! make a friend, or talk to someone you haven't seen in a while! or just, you know, stumble awkwardly into their business. that works too.]
[[ooc: aw yeah, mingling post! make your own comment, tag other people's comments, go crazy!]]

He had not expected to come back and find his favorite spot in the library so thoroughly inhabited by someone else. At first, he watched from quite a distance, because being surrounded by that many books was a sign of intelligence, and intelligence was a rare and potentially dangerous thing, especially around here.
He would only stop in briefly, once a day at the most, just long enough to see if she still had her 'camp' set up there, and pretend to be interested in things on a very different side of the library.
Now, however... since she doesn't seem to be intent on ever leaving... it's time for more intensive observation. Which, of course, means looking through the books on closer shelves and pretending not to notice her.]

but it isn't until today, while he's looking around nearer to where she's sitting, that she connects the dots and realizes it's kind of weird.
so she'll start playing the "casually glance back every once in a while to get a better look at this guy" game.]
no subject
Of course.
He can't help that his glance sticks a little too long to her book castle at that point]
no subject
she starts to almost say something, and then--eerk, stops.
it's not that she doesn't want to be rude, it's just that calling strangers out on being creeps isn't exactly something she's comfortable with. but she'll summon up her social curage aaaand...!]
Hey! [she twists so that she can peer down aisle of books he's at. she'd be worried about not shouting in the library if her voice ever went above a whisper.]
Can I... help you with something?
no subject
So, he looks over again, visibly considers... and then steps closer. As he approaches, looking as polite as possible, he points around at her whole collection and then tilts his head, obviously questioning]
no subject
Oh, the books? I'm, uh...
[...she looks down, then. really looks down. realizes she's been slowly burying herself in research books for a week.]
Um. Research project. [looking back up.] Am I like... in your waaay or anything?
no subject
He shakes his head to her question, and tries to get her to elaborate about what she's researching. Looking interested, he makes a 'go on' motion with his hand]
no subject
What? It's just, uh, magic and stuff. Trying to find a way away from magical tower land, or whatever.
[it's awkward that this is the SECOND person she's had to ask this of.]
Do you not talk either, or are you just especially quiet?
no subject
Which will make this conversation awkward, of course. But that still works out for him. He picks up one of the books from the stack, inspecting it. It's one specifically on practical magics, and the one that he'd been intending on borrowing. He's using it as a contextual clue for the moment--pointing at it, and then pointing at her?]
no subject
Are you... asking if I can do that stuff?
no subject
so... he nods, whether or not it's what he originally meant]
no subject
That's, uh... I'm not sure. I haven't tried most of it yet.
I'm really just looking for theories and stuff...
no subject
So, he keeps up the 'questioning,' tilting his head at that. It's specifically at the "most of it" part, but who knows if she'll catch that]

no subject
...He points at one of the sci-fi books? He doesn't get the point of looking at fiction.]
no subject
Sometimes they have alternate dimensions. Might as well.
no subject
And one more awkward question for good measure--he gestures to one of the history books, and then points to her? It's not from a world he recognizes]
no subject
[she points at the book under his arm, since yeah. he noticed.]
You can have that one, if you want. Seriously, I can get out of your way.
no subject
He gives an almost shy or awkward nod of thanks at the permission to take the book. And then he takes a step back, waving in a reassuring way. She doesn't need to go anywhere, it's okay.
...He's going to want to observe and take a tally of what she's investigating, after all.]
no subject
[...what a weird guy.]
