[so it looks like today is Robin's equivalent of "spring cleaning" day at the hideout. he's mostly getting his shit in order, tying up some loose ends, trashing the old stuff that no one wants anymore, aaaand... dealing with some business.]

[he hasn't spoken to her in a looooong time... but today he decided to change that.]

So, hey. Can't help but notice there's been an awful lot of murdering going on.

Think you guys could maybe not attract the attention of the whole fucking city?

[with that finally out of the way and him waiting for responses (if they come at all), he's decided to just hang around on one of the couches and distractedly hum something that sounds a little like the Wren Song. there's a distant tapping that might be his foot on a wall.

but eventually he stops that, too. his attention span isn't all that great on a normal day, but today it's even worse. he'll start talking to no one in particular (which means the journal).]

You know what I miss? Fight rings. And not that publicly broadcasted shit they clean up for TV and radio, no--I'm talking real, messy, Underground fights. Those were the best fucking nights. Always a party.

I wonder if they've got anything like that hiding around here... Some corner of the slums, maybe.

I'm not surprised. [said with a hint of a laugh.] Come to think of it, do you even own anything that isn't purple?

[said partly because he wants to watch Tek's face while he tries to think of something that doesn't have purple in it.]

It's the next part that requires some thought before answering.]

Aha... I see. [that's close enough. he folds his arm near his chest just so that he hold up his other arm... and prop his face up with a satisfied look.]

It's a good color to gravitate towards, at least. Very royal. Fitting.

[he messes with the blade some more, though there is edge of maybe wanting to use it sneaking into the motions now.

And somewhere in there, he abruptly decides that he wants to buy it. Getting something that isn't particularly purple just to spite Robin is only a small part of it.]

[though he decides he wants to buy one of the knives, the one he gravitated towards earlier. not to match his decision or anything.]

[and he'll drop it all for now, while they busy themselves with paying the harried shopkeeper for their things.

And he waits until Robin has handed over his money for the knife he's buying, transaction complete and turning toward the door, before giving a casual glance toward the weapon and seeming a little surprised]

Oh. That's the one you picked?

[he stops on the way out to hold the door open for Tek, tucking the knife up somewhere into his sleeve as he does.]

Yeah. Is there a problem?

A problem? No, it's fine.

[and it's the quiet sort of unimpressed. The kind that says that he thinks it's just okay. It's a knife--it has sharp points, it will do its job.

...It's not what he would have picked for him, but it's fine.]

What do you mean it's fine.

[which sounds suspiciously not like a question.]

[still lingering just inside the door]

I mean exactly what I said.

It's fine.

Tek. [still. holding. the damn door.]

[he holds up his hands and bows his head a little, making his way for the door now]

It's your blade. What do you care what I think about it?

[he takes a really deep, measured breath in through his nose, and...!]

Nothing. I don't care at all.

[he'll call that good. If Robin had to take a breath, that means that he was bothered, which was half of the half of the whole point. The rest of it, vaguer statements about what he thinks of Robin's judgements against his tastes, he can only hope for.

Either way, they're even again and that's all that matters. So he'll relent and head through the door]

So are we still getting you a necklace, or what?

[he falls back into step next to him. yeah, we'll play the pretending-that-didn't-happen game.]

[he's really good at that game--when he feels like he's attained equal or better footing than the person he's with, at least. So, the fact that he falls comfortably in step with Robin is a pretty good sign that he'll leave him alone for now.]

Oh! Yes. ...Something nice. Something I don't have yet. [--repeating the only stipulations he'd laid out in his head about it]

Well, I'm not familiar with your collection... [he tilts his head a little. problems? already pushed aside.] But I think the open marketplace is still your best bet for something unique.

And you know what's good for improving your mood? Suddenly remembering that you have sunglasses now, and putting them on.

He instantly looks happier after that.]

Then it's good that you found them. They really are a nice fit.

[the constant fidgeting is starting to distract him, but he's not going to say anything. just keeping walking, maybe keeping an extra eye out for things that look like... necklaces Tek might be looking for.]

I see much better in low light. These really are perfect. [rambling, wandering, fidgeting] The concept is so simple... I'm more than a little disappointed that no one has come up with anything like this at home.

[and he'll keep that up until they're in an area where several nice jewelry shops are competing for attention. But he's ignoring most of the more simple and elegant items-- eyes seeming to stray toward the really fancy things]

I bet your home will catch up. Someone somewhere has to figure it out eventually.

[he will watch Tek's line of sight and quietly wonder just how he's planning on paying for these. ...or if he'll end up paying.]

[that... is a very good thing to wonder. He starts to veer toward one display with elaborate collars of jewels, short enough to hang above the pendant he always wears... but goodness are they on the extravagant side]

[not gonna ask. not gonna ask. not gonna ask. just going to follow along and wait for Tek to make up his mind, or... at least... give some indication that he might have some options he likes.]
